What is 2.5D glass?

For some time now, the term “2.5D glass” has become increasingly common in the world of mobile technology. Many users generally don’t know what it is and no wonder – you won’t guess even with a big desire.

2.5D glass is a display on a smartphone whose edges are slightly curved and which rises slightly above the case itself. This is not to say that using such a display is more convenient, but definitely more pleasant.

There are 3 types of glasses on the market: 2D, 2.5D and 3D.

  • 2D glass is a flat surface. These displays are most common..
  • 3D glass is a curved surface. Recently, it is increasingly found on smartphones.
  • 2.5D glass, as you might have guessed, is a cross between a 2D and a 3D surface – glass with smooth shapes.

Now look at the difference between the surfaces on the example of the Xiaomi Mi Note device:

Interestingly, the cost of creating 2.5D glass is the same as in the case of 2D, but it is perceived as more expensive or, if you want, premium due to the rounded side edges. This surface does not give other advantages..

And now – illustrative examples of the use of various surfaces.
