What is the difference between iPhone XR and XS?

One day, Apple introduced three new smartphone models at once: iPhone XS, XS Max and XR. Although XR is a formally completely new model, the XS is a seriously upgraded version of the iPhone X. What about the XS Max? This is practically the same XS, only for a number of small differences, including an enlarged display. So let’s talk about the difference between the iPhone XS and XR.

Of course, it’s worth starting with design. Both smartphones have tempered glass installed on the front and rear, but the back covers are different – primarily due to the fact that the XS uses a dual camera, and the XR uses a single.

The second important difference is the color shades. So, if the XS can be purchased in black, silver or golden hue, then the XR received much more colors, and more vivid: blue, orange, red, yellow, as well as white and black.

It’s noticeable from the front that the XR’s side frames are slightly thicker.

The dimensions of the XS are decently smaller than those of the XR. This is due to the fact that the XR has a larger display diagonal – 6.1 inches versus 5.8 inches.

Dimensions XR (mm)

  • Width: 75.70
  • Height: 150.90
  • Thickness: 8.30
  • Weight: 194g

Dimensions XS (mm)

  • Width: 70.90
  • Height: 143.60
  • Thickness: 7.70
  • Weight: 177g

One more thing about the case. Both smartphones received water protection, but if its level in the case of the iPhone XR is IP67, then for XS – IP68.

Here the difference will be palpable. The XS uses a 5.8-inch OLED display with a high resolution of 2436 × 1125 pixels, while the XR uses an IPS display with a resolution of 1792 × 828 pixels. It is clear that the first has a much higher pixel density per inch: 458 vs 326.

It is believed that the XS uses a much better display, but the owners of XR claim that there is practically no difference with the screen in XR. In any case, XR uses an excellent matrix.

The front modules are the same in both cases: resolution – 7 MP, aperture – F / 1.80.

But the rear cameras are different: the XS has a dual resolution of 12/12 MP with a wide-angle (F / 1.8) and a telephoto lens (F / 2.4), and the XR has a single wide-angle (F / 1.8) with a resolution of 12 MP.

Thanks to the additional module, XS can take pictures with double zoom without loss of quality, XR does not have such an opportunity. In any case, both smartphones shoot just fine.

Both smartphones work on the basis of the most powerful 6-core A12 Bionic processor, which shows the real wonders of performance. With it, XS became the most powerful smartphone in the world according to AnTuTu at the time of writing..

The amount of RAM varies: in XS – 4 GB, in XR – 3 GB. The amount of internal memory for XR:

  • 64 GB
  • 128 GB
  • 256 GB

For XS:

  • 64 GB
  • 256 GB
  • 512 GB

Why such difference? Just XS – the flagship of the line.

The numbers are as follows: the iPhone XR’s battery capacity is 2716 mAh, and the XS is 3179 mAh.

XS is the flagship, and it certainly costs more.
