Most modern smartphones are equipped with a memory card slot – and no matter how manufacturers do not want to abandon it, buyers are supporting memory cards. That’s right: this is a simple and convenient way to expand the amount of internal memory. But only in some cases, the smartphone refuses to see the memory card. Why is this happening and what to do?
Reboot your smartphone
One of the first steps is traditionally rebooting the device, because if a software failure occurs, rebooting will help to fix it in most cases.
Press the power key and hold it for about 1-2 seconds.
A small menu appears on the screen, in which you must select the “Restart” item.
And then just wait for the system to reboot and check if the memory card is working.
Remove the memory card tray and reinsert
Another option is to remove the tray with a memory card (and a SIM card) and insert it back.
Take a smartphone and a special key for the tray (a regular paper clip is also suitable). Gently press the key into a special recess in the tray.
If everything is done correctly, when pressed, the tray will open slightly.
Next, you need to pry it with your finger and get it.
It is possible that the memory card is not quite right in its place. In addition, it is worth inspecting the memory card for damage. And if there are none, just in case you should clean the contacts with an eraser – only carefully so as not to damage them.
Next, reinsert the tray with the memory card.
Format memory card
Many memory cards are formatted in exFAT file system. Alas, not all smartphones are able to see a memory card in this “format”, so you need to format it in the FAT32 file system. Then a computer or laptop will come to your aid. And besides, you will need a card reader, if there is no built-in one, for example, this:
What’s next? Insert a memory card into the card reader, connect the card reader to a PC or laptop, open My Computer. You see the memory card, click on it with the right mouse button, select “Format” in the menu.
Select the FAT32 file system, click “Start.” If there is important data on the memory card, transfer it to another drive – when formatting, all data from the flash drive will be deleted.
The memory card will be formatted. After that, insert it into the slot on the smartphone and check.
There is another formatting option, but it can work if you have another mobile device that sees a memory card – for example, another smartphone. In this case, go to “Settings” (in the example – a Samsung Galaxy smartphone).
Next – “Device Maintenance”.
Here is the “Memory”.
Tap on three points, then – “Memory Settings”.
Choose a memory card.
And now – the item “Format”. Of course, all data on the memory card will be deleted..
After formatting, insert the memory card back into the slot in your smartphone and check the operability.
The memory card does not work physically
It is checked as follows: insert it into another smartphone, and at the same time into a card reader. And if the memory card is not detected anywhere, most likely, she ordered a long life. The solution is to buy a new memory card..
Broken memory card slot
If the smartphone does not see a single memory card, there may be a problem in the slot – it may be damaged or simply malfunction.
Incompatibility of the memory card with the phone
Do not forget to look at the maximum amount of memory card that your smartphone system supports (usually indicated in the specifications). And do not be surprised that a 128 GB flash drive does not support a smartphone that supports no more than 64 GB of third-party memory.
