Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro (Prime): a small review of new hits

It is unlikely that the fact that Xiaomi should present the new generation of the Redmi smartphone in the fall of 2016 was hardly a secret. And this happened, and Xiaomi introduced two devices at once: Xiaomi Redmi 4 and the more powerful Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro (Prime). We will tell you more about them..

So, let’s start with the case. Like Redmi 3, it uses a metal case. However, if in the previous generation there were plastic plugs at the top and bottom, now there are none – there was only a plastic insert in the upper part of the case, it is almost imperceptible. The design is prettier, you can say the device looks premium.

Formally, the cases of both models are the same, there are three shades in total: gray, silver and golden. Nevertheless, there are a couple of differences. Look at the photo:

Have you noticed? If not, here’s the answer – the older version uses a double flash, which is located on the other side of the camera lens. On the right is Remid 4 Pro (Prime). By the way, the cameras themselves are the same and shoot at the same level with Redmi 3 – the average level. So, in any case, say Western journalists. This does not mean that the camera is bad, but if you want to use it for professional shots, Redmi 4 is clearly not the best choice..

By the way, you can observe that the fingerprint scanner remained on the back cover. According to the reviews of journalists who managed to test the device, it works even faster than on the previous generation model.

There is no difference in front. Interestingly, 2.5D glass appeared. Under the screen there are three familiar touch keys for Xiaomi, however, be prepared for the fact that they are not highlighted. Apparently, it’s not due to its status, but personally we don’t see this as a problem.

The compartment for the SIM card and memory card, as well as the POWER and sound control keys, are located on the side faces.

We pass to the “hardware” and here we see the differences. Both devices use a 5-inch screen, but the resolution is different – 1280 × 720 pixels for Redmi 4 and 1920 × 1080 pixels for the version of Redmi 4 Pro (Prime).

The processors are different: Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 for the younger version and Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 for the older one. Even the memory size is different: 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of main memory for Redmi 4 and 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of main memory for Redmi 4 Pro (Prime). The battery capacity is identical – 4100 mAh and, again, judging by the reviews, the autonomy of the devices is excellent. The speed of work in powerful applications will obviously be higher for a more powerful version, which, however, is not surprising.

By the way, as for the names. Our older model is called Redmi 4 Pro, although in reality it is called Prime. But we will not consider it a mistake.

Both devices are already on sale, moreover, you can buy them in Russia. The younger version is slightly cheaper, the difference between smartphones is an average of 1.5-3 thousand rubles (at the time of writing). Which version to choose? Depends on your needs. If you plan to play powerful games and prefer a high-resolution screen, it is better to pay extra for the older version. But no, it’s worth saving and buying a younger version.
