Samsung Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge: what is the difference and which is better to choose?

A few months ago, Samsung introduced its flagship Galaxy S7 model, and along with the Galaxy S7 Edge. Almost all experts agreed that this is one of the best devices on the market at the moment. I liked the S7 and users, but not everyone can decide on the choice – buy a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge? Let’s look at the devices in more detail..

Externally, the devices look the same when looking at the back cover, and the main difference is the dimension. The screen size of the S7 is 5.1 inches, and the S7 Edge has 5.5 inches, therefore, it is larger in size.

In front, you won’t notice much difference either – the same keys, the same speaker and camera layout, the same screen … However, the screen is curved, and therefore you can immediately see from the side that this is the Edge model. You can also notice a slightly different shape of the case, but to see this, you need to try hard.

There are no other differences in appearance..

As mentioned above, the S7 has a 5.1-inch screen, and the Edge has a 5.5-inch screen, and it is still curved. It’s hard to say how good such a decision is – someone likes it, someone doesn’t. But if you need a larger device, then there is no alternative – only the S7 Edge. Well, or Galaxy Note 7, which is about to see the light.

It is worth noting that despite the differences in the diagonal, the screen resolution is the same – 2560 × 1440 pixels. Image quality is no different.

If everything is clear with the appearance, then how is the situation with the hardware? In this regard, the devices are exactly the same. Here are the same 4 GB of RAM, the same Samsung Exynos 8890 processor, Mali-T880 graphics accelerator, etc. At the same time, both devices can use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, but in our market it is a rare guest – such devices are sold mainly in other markets.

There is a difference in battery capacity. So, if the S7 is equipped with a 3000 mAh battery, then Edge – at 3600 mAh. And this is not surprising, since it has a larger screen, besides the resolution is QHD, the power consumption is probably a little higher.

Software cameras

What software, what cameras are absolutely identical.

As for the software, it uses Android 6.0.1 with its own TouchWiz interface. Of course, with the possibility of updating.

The main camera is 12 megapixel, using its own BRITECELL module. Do not look at the numbers – at the time of writing, this is one of the best, and perhaps even the best camera in a smartphone on the market.

Front camera – 5 MP.

As for the cost, everything here is clear without a word – Edge is more expensive. But the difference against the background of the cost of the smartphones themselves is not so great – at the time of writing, Edge is more expensive by an average of 6-9 thousand.

So what is better to buy? Let’s repeat once again how smartphones differ:

  • Edge has a larger screen size.
  • S7 Edge has curved glass.
  • The battery is larger with Edge, although it is hardly worth counting on a big difference in autonomy..
  • S7 is cheaper than Edge.

What to choose? Choose you. If you want to save money and don’t want a big screen, choose S7. If you are willing to overpay and need a large display, take the S7 Edge. In any case, you will not lose.
