Smartphones with the best camera of 2020: top DXOMARK rating

This is not the first year we have been talking about smartphones with the best main camera, which only exist on the market. At the same time, we use the DXOMARK website rating – it is considered the most authoritative among both specialists and users. The creators of the rating created a special methodology for testing smartphones, which allows you to determine the level of quality of shooting. And, as experts say, the DXOMARK methodology is closest to reality, so we have no reason to not trust the rating. In parentheses next to the name of the smartphone is the number of points for shooting (the higher the score, the better the camera).

Huawei Mate 30 Pro (121)

We had no doubts that the Mate 30 Pro will head the top DXOMARK – the previous models of the company more than once headed the rating.

The main quad camera uses Leica optics. The module itself looks very cool and is made in the form of a circle. Of the chips – a separate sensor for recording video with a resolution of 40 MP. Another 40-megapixel module is used for photography, with the first module acquiring optical stabilization and high-aperture optics. There are two more sensors – for three-fold increase (with optical stabilization) and for blurring the background. Experts have already agreed that the Mate 30 Pro shoots even better than the P30 Pro model, and this is especially noticeable at night.

There is a 30x digital zoom, night and portrait mode, lots of filters, etc..

To the bad news – at the time of writing, the Mate 30 Pro is not officially available. But even worse, the smartphone is now sold without Google services due to the well-known situation. We hope all these problems are resolved..

Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G (123)

The 5G version of Huawei Mate 30 Pro was able to score 123 points versus 121 for the version without support for 5th generation networks. Why? Experts answer that the matter is solely in software, since the cameras on both devices are identical: the 5G version removes a little better, which helped to score as many as 123 points.

Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro Premium Edition was able to surprise everyone with an impressive 121 points.

This is the first mass smartphone that received the main module with a resolution of 108 MP (f / 1.7, optical stabilization, ISOCELL Bright HMX). In addition to the main sensor, there are four more:

  • 117 degree wide angle.
  • Macro Sensor.
  • Telephoto lens with optical zoom and optical stabilizer.
  • Telephoto Lens for Portrait Photography.

It is noted that the Mi CC9 Pro Premium Edition perfectly shoots not only during the day but also at night..

An analogue for the Russian market is Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro, however, experts believe that the Mi Note 10 Pro removes simpler than the Mi CC9 Pro Premium Edition.

iPhone 11 Pro Max 256GB (117)

An impressive 117 points could score the iPhone 11 Pro Max. This also includes the iPhone 11 Pro, since both models have exactly the same cameras.

11 Pro Max received a triple main camera: wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle sensors, as well as a telephoto lens. It is noteworthy that they all received a resolution of 12 MP (f / 1.8 + f / 2.0 + f / 2.4). Particular emphasis is placed on the night mode, which takes several photos and “stitches” them into one frame – the most successful. And it really works.

Supports shooting at 4K 60 fps, there is a phase autofocus, optical stabilization – mainly in the TV modules.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 12 / 256GB (117)

The new flagship Note 10+, as always, got its main feature – this is the stylus that hides inside the case. But in this case, we are most interested in the camera. And she is very cool here..

From now on, the main camera consists of 4 modules: wide-angle (f / 1.5-f / 2.4), ultra-wide-angle (f / 2.2), telephoto lens (f / 2.1), 3D depth camera. Of course, there is optical image stabilization for the main module and telephoto. Samsung’s interchangeable aperture for main module has been used before.

As for the front camera, it’s single, got a resolution of 10 MP (f / 2.2) and shoots almost standard.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G (117)

The same model as the “regular” Galaxy Note 10+. I got exactly the same number of points, and this, among other things, suggests that their cameras are exactly the same.

And as far as we know, the main difference between the Galaxy Note 10+ and Galaxy Note 10+ 5G is support for the 5th generation networks of the latest device. Only.

Huawei P30 Pro (116)

Although this is not the latest model in the ranking, it is in the top 10 and gets as many as 116 points.

There are 3 modules: basic resolution of 40 MP with optical stabilization and aperture of f / 1.6, wide-angle with a resolution of 20 MP and aperture of f / 2.2, as well as a telephoto lens with aperture of f / 3.4 with 5x optical and 10x hybrid zoom + ToF camera (there is laser autofocus, phase and contrast autofocus).

It is worth noting that, like on other smartphones, the default is lower resolution for shooting – 10 MP, and 40 MP are forcibly turned on.

OPPO Reno 10x Zoom 256GB (116)

An impressive number of points could score OPPO Reno 10x Zoom.

It is equipped with a triple main camera: main module (48 MP), telephoto lens (13 MP) and wide-angle sensor (8 MP). Together, they provide a 10x hybrid zoom. In stock – dual optical stabilization. It is noted that even with hand zoom, it is quite easy to achieve a clear image, although not always. The main module is the well-known Sony IMX586 with a resolution of 48 MP, which by default traditionally shoots in a lower resolution – 12 MP.

“Frontalka” is single, the quality of the pictures is very decent. The lifting mechanism of the front camera is much more interesting – it’s very unusual.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.6 inches
  • Screen Resolution: 2340 × 1080
  • Weight: 215g
  • SIM Card Quantity: 2
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 855

  • Rear camera: triple 48/8/13 MP

Samsung Galaxy S10 5G (116)

In theory, the Galaxy S10 5G from its counterparts Galaxy S10 / S10 + should differ only in support for fifth-generation networks, but in fact there is another serious difference – a ToF sensor was added to analyze the depth of field. And in addition, DXOMARK experts note that the Galaxy S10 5G shoots much better than the Galaxy S10 / S10+.

It uses an ultra-wide-angle sensor (f / 2.2), wide-angle with a variable aperture of f / 1.5-f / 2.4, a telephoto lens (f / 2.2).

The difference lies in better color reproduction and more accurate white balance, even faster and more accurate autofocus, less noise, better bokeh effect.

  • Screen Resolution: 3040 × 1440
  • Weight: 157g

  • Front camera: 10 MP
  • Support for memory cards: yes

OnePlus 7 Pro (114)

Although the reviews often say that OnePlus smartphones are far from the segment leaders in terms of photography, the 7 Pro gets 114 points in the DXOMARK rating.

The main camera has three modules: a basic resolution of 48 MP and an aperture of f / 1.6, a telephoto lens with a resolution of 8 MP and an aperture of f / 2.4, a wide-angle resolution of 16 MP and an aperture of f / 2.2. Optical stabilization is provided for the main module and telephoto. There is support for recording 4K at 60 frames per second.

It is noted that during the day almost all the top-end smartphones shoot at the same level, and the main ones differ converge to night shooting – here the differences can be serious. However, according to experts, OnePlus 7 Pro decently takes off in the dark.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.67 inches

Honor 20 Pro (113)

Formally, the Honor 20 Pro is the flagship model of the company, in fact, it is still a mid-range device. All the more pleasant is the fact that the Honor 20 Pro received as much as 113 points in the DXOMARK rating.

The rear camera received 4 modules: the main one with a resolution of 48 MP and aperture f / 1.4 with optical and electronic stabilization, as well as laser focusing, a wide-angle resolution of 16 MP and aperture f / 2.2, a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and aperture f / 2.4, and also for shooting macro with a resolution of 2 MP and aperture f / 2.4.

In the reviews you can hear that the last module is nothing more than marketing. But even if this is so, the Honor 20 Pro in any case shoots just fine, though, first of all, in the afternoon.

  • Screen Resolution: 2340 × 1080

  • Front camera: 32 MP
  • Memory card support: no

Samsung Galaxy S10 + (113)

Samsung Galaxy S10 + is also an excellent camera phone, and Samsung Galaxy S10 can also be safely attributed here – the cameras for these two smartphones are completely identical (with the exception of the Galaxy S10 5G, which we talked about above).

The smartphone has a triple camera: an ultra-wide sensor of 16 MP (f / 2.2), wide-angle with a variable aperture of f / 1.5-f / 2.4 and a resolution of 12 MP, a telephoto lens of 12 MP (f / 2.2). It shoots great.

By the way, I want to note the cool self-mode mode, which allows you to create stickers based on your face. There is also the ability to change the background in them.

  • Screen diagonal: 6.4 inches
  • Screen Resolution: 3040 × 1440
  • Weight: 175g
  • SIM Card Quantity: 2
  • Processor: Exynos 9820

  • Front camera: 10 MP
  • Support for memory cards: yes

Google Pixel 4 (112)

Google’s Pixel Series smartphones have never had a wide range of camera modules. Pixel 4 is also not impressive in this regard – the camera consists of two sensors: the main resolution of 12 MP and an f / 1.7 aperture with optical stabilization, as well as a telephoto lens with double zoom and a resolution of 16 MP.

The device shoots very cool, the same can be said about night shooting, but experts say that against the background of such giants as Huawei Mate 30 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro, the Pixel 4 is by no means as good as it was with the flagships Google past generations and direct competitors.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro (112)

Huawei Mate 20 Pro is gradually disappearing from store shelves. It is understandable – a new generation model has come out. However, the Mate 30 Pro is much more expensive, and the Mate 20 Pro has seriously fallen in price. And it’s still one of the best camera phones on the market..

The rear module is triple: with a basic resolution of 40 MP and aperture f / 1.8, a wide-angle resolution of 20 MP and aperture f / 2.2, as well as a telephoto lens with aperture f / 2.4.

Of course, there is a night mode. It is worth noting that in terms of night shooting, the Mate 20 Pro is able to give odds to some much more recent flagships.

The camera itself is almost identical to that used in the iPhone X. The main differences are software, so the XS Max shoots a little better.
